Spring 2024 Statewide Exercise Results

The Spring 2024 Statewide AUXCOMM Exercise was held May 11, with a focus on PACE planning as well as introducing a new tool for local teams to evaluate. A few facts about the exercise:

  • Over 250 volunteers and agency personnel participated, including 95 from outside the AUXCOMM community.
  • 17 of the volunteers were new or were returning after 3 or more years’ absence.
  • 14 counties submitted reports.
  • 6 out of 7 districts were represented in reporting (volunteers in District 5 were limited in participation while they assisted with efforts following severe weather in the area).

Overall, the exercise was well received. A couple of deltas noted are that:

  • There are training opportunities on how to use Winlink forms. A few of the final reports were sent as plain text. Also, several operators sent a 213 describing field status—the inject was requesting the Field Situation Report, a Winlink form, to be sent. It provides geolocation data that can be used to map information.
  • Attendance was lighter overall. Root causes include issues in communicating exercise plans and other supporting information to all counties, and scheduling conflicts with other events around the state which our volunteers support such as the MS Walk and the Holland Tulip Festival.

Scores have been tabulated on the reports submitted, and the results are listed below.
